Who we are

A Nigerian organisation built around the people who grow our food

AIKKIA Agricultural Development and Empowerment Initiatives is a not-for-profit, non-political organisation registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria as an incorporated trustee body under the Companies and Allied Matters Act.

From our base in Kaduna State, we work with smallholder farmers, women's groups and young people whose livelihoods depend on agriculture. Across rural Nigeria the constraint is rarely effort or willingness — it is access. Access to a buyer who pays a fair price. Access to credit that does not punish a bad season. Access to good seed, sound advice and somewhere dry to store a harvest.

AIKKIA exists to close those gaps, and to make sure that women, young people and vulnerable households are not left at the margins of the value chains they help build.

Our mission

To improve food security and nutrition and reduce rural poverty and unemployment by expanding access to markets, finance and agricultural inputs — and by strengthening the position of women, youth and vulnerable groups within agricultural value chains.

Our vision

Rural communities where every farming household can earn a fair living from the land, feed itself well through the year, and pass on a farm stronger than the one it inherited.

Our work

Six focus areas, one goal: a farm that pays

These are the areas our constitution commits us to, and where we are designing our first programmes with farming communities in Kaduna State.

Market Access & Value Chains

Aggregating smallholder produce, linking farmer groups directly to buyers, processors and offtakers, and cutting the post-harvest losses and margins that keep farm-gate prices low.

Access to Finance

Helping farmer groups become creditworthy — savings and loan groups, farm record keeping, input-credit literacy, and introductions to lenders and agri-finance schemes.

Inputs & Agronomic Advisory

Improving access to quality seed, fertiliser and crop protection, paired with extension support on good agronomic practice, soil health and climate-smart techniques.

Women's Economic Empowerment

Backing women-led farm enterprises and processing groups, and tackling the barriers — land, credit, market access, time — that limit what women earn from agriculture.

Youth in Agribusiness

Making agriculture a deliberate career choice for young people through practical training, mentorship and start-up support along the value chain.

Food Security & Nutrition

Promoting nutrition-sensitive farming, crop diversity and better storage, so households eat well right through the year and not only at harvest.

Our approach

How we intend to work

  1. Farmer-first

    Programmes are designed with farmer groups, not for them. Communities set the priorities; we bring technical support, training and connections.

  2. Partnership-led

    We work through government agencies, research institutes, cooperatives, financial institutions and fellow organisations. Nobody fixes a value chain alone.

  3. Transparent and accountable

    Our constitution binds every naira to our stated objectives. Accounts carry three signatories and are independently audited every year.

  4. Evidence-driven

    We measure what actually changes for households — yield, income, diet, participation — and report what we learn, including what does not work.

AIKKIA is governed by an elected Board of Trustees and bound by a constitution registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission.

How we handle money and oversight

  • Income and property are applied solely to our objectives — no part may be paid to members as profit, dividend or bonus.
  • Three signatories on the organisation's account: the Chairman, Financial Secretary and Treasurer, with the Chairman signing alongside one other.
  • Disbursements require written approval signed by the Chairman and the Financial Secretary.
  • Accounts are audited annually by independent, licensed auditors, who report to the Annual General Meeting.
  • Audited statements are filed with the Corporate Affairs Commission as part of our annual returns.
  • Trustees are elected at a General Meeting by a two-thirds majority of the members present, and may hold office for five years.
